Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil on Monday, marking the second phase of his three-nation tour, during which he is set to participate in the G20 Summit. His arrival in Brazil follows a “productive” visit to Nigeria, where he engaged in bilateral discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and connected with the Indian diaspora.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced PM Modi’s arrival in Brazil through a post on X, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 Brazil Summit,” and included images of his reception at the airport. In Brazil, he will take part in the 19th G20 Summit as a member of the Troika, which includes India, Brazil, and South Africa.
Notable leaders such as Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden are also expected to attend the summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19. Following this, Modi will conclude his trip with a visit to Guyana from November 19 to 21, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over half a century.During his trip to Nigeria, Prime Minister Modi was honored with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), the nation’s highest award, thus becoming only the second foreign leader to receive this prestigious recognition. This accolade marks the 17th international honor bestowed upon PM Modi by a foreign nation, with Queen Elizabeth II being the sole other recipient of this award. Furthermore, this visit represents the first occasion in 17 years that an Indian prime minister has traveled to the West African nation.
