Rashtrapati Bhavan is poised to host a wedding for the first time in its illustrious history. On February 12, 2025, CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta, who is presently serving as a Personal Security Officer at the President’s residence, will unite in marriage with fellow CRPF officer Avnish Kumar. The ceremony is scheduled to occur at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex, with attendance limited to close family members and conducted under stringent security protocols. This venue has been the site of numerous high-profile international events over the years; however, a wedding has never been held there until this occasion. Initially, reports regarding the event were met with skepticism, but subsequent confirmations from media sources revealed that President Droupadi Murmu had granted special permission for Poonam Gupta’s wedding, acknowledging her unwavering dedication and professionalism in her role. Poonam Gupta rose to national prominence when she commanded the all-women contingent during the 74th Republic Day Parade. Prior to her current assignment at Rashtrapati Bhavan, she served in a Naxal-affected area of Bihar, showcasing her commitment to duty in challenging circumstances.
Gupta is a distinguished scholar who possesses a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a master’s degree in English Literature, and a Bachelor of Education from Jiwaji University in Gwalior. In 2018, she joined the Central Reserve Police Force as an Assistant Commandant after achieving the 81st rank in the UPSC CAPF examination. Her fiancé, Avnish Kumar, also serves as an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF and is currently stationed in Jammu & Kashmir. The couple’s wedding is scheduled to take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, characterized as a private ceremony with only their immediate family members in attendance. President Droupadi Murmu has personally granted Gupta’s request to host her wedding at this prestigious venue, a decision believed to be a recognition of her exemplary service and adherence to a strict code of conduct. This unprecedented approval has generated considerable public interest, with many speculating about the reasons behind this historic exception at the presidential estate.
In addition to her professional commitments, Gupta maintains an active presence on social media platforms, particularly Instagram, where she shares valuable insights related to her work and offers motivational messages aimed at students. It remains uncertain whether she will be allowed to post wedding photographs from Rashtrapati Bhavan, adding an element of intrigue to the upcoming event.
