Earlier, a large number of Indians gathered at the airport to give a spirited reception to Modi. The BRICS organization was established in 2009. Its member countries include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia. The two-day BRICS summit began yesterday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In this context, Prime Minister Modi, who is present there, received a warm welcome from numerous Indians at the Rio de Janeiro airport. On the first day of the summit, which was yesterday, a special meeting was held regarding ‘International Peace, Security, Reform, and Governance.’ Prime Minister Modi participated in this meeting. Brazilian President Lula da Silva and leaders from various countries warmly embraced Modi. Today, the second day of the summit, a special meeting on international environment and health is taking place. Prime Minister Modi is also participating in this meeting. Notably, Chinese President Xi Jinping did not attend the BRICS summit. Instead, Chinese Premier Li Qiang is representing China. Russian President Putin will participate via video link. Prime Minister Modi is set to engage in extensive discussions with leaders from various countries at the conference. The United States government has imposed significant tariffs on numerous countries around the world, particularly targeting BRICS nations. This issue is expected to be thoroughly discussed at the BRICS summit. In 2023, Brazilian President proposed the introduction of a new currency on behalf of the BRICS coalition. In response, U.S. President Trump expressed his condemnation, warning, “If a new currency is introduced, I will impose a 100 percent tariff on BRICS countries.” It appears that this matter will also be addressed during the BRICS summit.
