Indian American immigrants are significantly impacting the economic landscape. According to Forbes’ 2025 list of America’s Richest Immigrants, entrepreneurs and executives of Indian origin are spearheading a new era of wealth, innovation, and influence throughout the United States. For the first time, India has achieved the top position in the number of foreign-born billionaires residing in the U.S., surpassing Israel. The 2025 list features 12 billionaires of Indian origin, outpacing Israel and Taiwan, each of which has 11. This highlights the growing economic presence of the Indian diaspora, especially in the technology and finance sectors. The overall list comprises 125 foreign-born billionaires from 43 countries, an increase from 92 in 2022. Collectively, they possess a total net worth of $1.3 trillion, representing 18% of the total billionaire wealth in the U.S., which is now estimated at $7.2 trillion. Leading the Indian-origin list is Jay Chaudhry, the founder of the cloud security powerhouse Zscaler, with a net worth of $17.9 billion. Hailing from the remote village of Panoh in present-day Himachal Pradesh, Chaudhry’s journey from studying under a tree to managing a Nasdaq-listed cybersecurity company exemplifies the self-made success narrative. After relocating to the U.S. in 1980, he obtained multiple master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati and initiated several startups before establishing Zscaler in 2007.
