Donald Trump has declared victory over Kamala Harris in the presidential election, signaling a potential political comeback. At a Florida campaign event, he told supporters they are on the brink of “a new golden age for America.” CBS projections indicate he needs just one more state to exceed 270 electoral college votes, making him the first former president to reclaim the White House in over 130 years. Trump’s party is also expected to gain a Senate majority. He described the election outcome as a major win for Americans, reinforcing his “make America great again” vision. Notably, Elon Musk, a key Trump supporter, was present during the results announcement. Trump is likely to sweep the seven critical swing states and may even win the national popular vote, which he narrowly missed in 2016. Projections show him leading in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan, while he has a strong advantage in Nevada. The race in Arizona remains tight. Trump has performed well in conservative areas, while Harris has won in more liberal states like New York and California.

Vice-President Harris, who aspired to be the first female president of the United States and campaigned vigorously for abortion rights, may not have achieved the expected level of support among women voters. According to the data, only 54% of female voters chose her, in contrast to Joe Biden, who garnered 57% of women’s votes in the 2020 election. Additionally, Black and Latino voters appeared to show slightly less support for Harris compared to their backing of Biden four years prior, as indicated by exit poll data from the Associated Press. In a significant development for a potential Trump presidency, reporters projected that Republicans will gain control of the Senate by securing two seats in West Virginia and Ohio from the Democrats, while successfully fending off a competitive challenger in Texas. In the House of Representatives, neither party seemed to hold a definitive advantage, with Republicans maintaining a narrow control. Approximately 86 million voters participated in early voting during what has been described as one of the most tumultuous election campaigns in recent American history. Harris, who is 60 years old, became the Democratic Party’s candidate only in July after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race due to internal party pressures.

Meanwhile, Trump, at 78, faced two assassination plots, narrowly escaping a sniper’s attack in Pennsylvania. If elected, he would become the oldest president in history, having previously been impeached twice and being the first former president to face criminal conviction. Both political parties have prepared legal teams for potential challenges on and after election day, while law enforcement agencies across the nation remain vigilant against possible violence, which has, so far, been avoided. On election day, there were approximately 30 bomb threat hoaxes directed at election-related sites nationwide, with more than half occurring in Georgia alone.
