India’s Defense Acquisition Council has approved the purchase of military hardware and equipment exceeding $6.26 billion, a move aimed at bolstering the capabilities of the nation’s armed forces, as announced by the Defense Ministry on March 20. This significant investment reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing national security and military readiness. In addition to the procurement approval, the council has introduced new guidelines intended to simplify the arms acquisition process, thereby making it “quicker, more effective, and efficient,” as stated in the official announcement. The approved acquisitions include upgraded engines for the Russian-made T-90 battle tanks employed by the Indian Army, additional anti-submarine torpedoes for the Indian Navy, and advanced airborne early warning and control systems for the Indian Air Force. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve operational capabilities across all branches of the military.
