US President Donald Trump has urged NATO nations to implement tariffs ranging from 50 to 100 percent on China in order to diminish its economic influence over Russia. He further stated that this action would contribute to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. In a post on social media, he remarked, “NATO’s dedication to achieving victory in the war is alarmingly low. It is astonishing that certain NATO member countries continue to purchase Russian oil. This significantly undermines the negotiating stance and leverage necessary to conclude the Ukraine-Russia conflict. The only measures that will assist in bringing this devastating war to an end are NATO’s embargo on Russian oil and tariffs on China. To resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine, NATO nations must impose tariffs of 50% to 100% on China. China exerts a substantial influence over Russia. Consequently, imposing significant tariffs on China will weaken that influence. I am prepared to enforce substantial economic sanctions on Russia once all NATO countries reach a consensus on this matter and cease purchasing oil from Russia.”
