The U.S. has issued over one million non-immigrant visas to Indian nationals for the second consecutive year, marking a record high in visitor visas. This reflects strong interest in travel to the U.S. for tourism, business, and education.In the past four years, Indian visitors to the U.S. have increased fivefold, with over two million visiting in the first eleven months of 2024—a 26% rise from 2023, according to the U.S. Embassy in India. Currently, more than five million Indians hold non-immigrant visas, with thousands issued daily. A new pilot program allows many specialty occupation workers to renew H-1B visas without leaving the U.S., and a formal renewal program is planned for 2025.The U.S. Mission to India has also issued tens of thousands of immigrant visas for family reunification and skilled professionals, enhancing the Indian diaspora. Additionally, over 24,000 passports and consular services have been provided to American citizens in India, and a revamped Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) was launched in 2024 to improve communication during emergencies.

Visa processing has improved significantly, with thousands of applications eligible for interview waivers processed weekly, streamlining renewals and reducing wait times for in-person interviews.The total of Indian students holding U.S. student visas has achieved a record peak. Numerous exchange visitors are now permitted to stay in the United States for an extended period of two years following the completion of their programs, thereby enhancing their prospects for career advancement and further education. Additionally, the removal of India from the Exchange Visitors Skills List has granted greater flexibility to Indian J-1 visa holders.The U.S. Mission to India reaffirmed its dedication to bolstering bilateral relations and delivering exceptional consular services.
