The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 28, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has announced. The Union Budget 2026 is scheduled to be presented on February 1, which falls on a Sunday. Based on the government’s recommendation, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the budget session. This session is the first parliamentary session of the year and starts with the President’s address to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Budget Session is usually held in two parts, with a break in between so parliamentary committees can examine the budget proposals of different ministries. There was some discussion about whether the Budget would be moved to February 2 since February 1 is a Sunday. However, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Budget on February 1 as planned. Kiren Rijiju said the final decision on the date will be taken by the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs.
