India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions reached a new record in August, crossing the ₹30 lakh crore mark in total transaction value. According to the latest figures, around 2,451 crore UPI transactions were made during the month, setting a fresh monthly high. UPI transaction volumes have been steadily increasing in recent months. In July, around 2,366 crore transactions were recorded, while June saw about 2,320 crore transactions. The latest August figures show that digital payments continue to grow rapidly across India. The rise in UPI usage highlights the growing preference for fast, convenient and cashless payments. People are increasingly using UPI for everyday activities such as shopping, paying bills, transferring money, ordering food and making online purchases. Small businesses, shops and service providers have also widely adopted UPI because payments can be received instantly through QR codes and mobile applications. The continued growth of UPI reflects India’s rapid shift toward a digital payments economy. With smartphones, QR-code payments and UPI-enabled banking services becoming more common, digital transactions are expected to remain an important part of everyday financial activity in the country.
