The United States government has approved the upgrade of Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets. The Pakistan Air Force currently has 76 F-16 aircraft, all of which are American-made. Since 1990, the U.S. had refused to supply Pakistan with the spare parts and technology needed for these jets. Because of this, many of Pakistan’s F-16s were grounded and could not be used. As a result, Pakistan has mostly been using Chinese-made JF-17 fighter jets in recent years. Now, the U.S. has finally agreed to support the upgrade of Pakistan’s F-16 fleet. Under this approval, Pakistan will receive essential spare parts and advanced technology. One of the major upgrades includes installing special equipment that helps the jets avoid detection by enemy radar. A detailed report on this plan was submitted to the U.S. Congress on December 8.
