Artificial intelligence, or AI, is now being used in almost every field around the world. However, reports now suggest that terrorist groups have also started using AI technology for dangerous activities. US-based AI company Anthropic has revealed that Yemen’s Houthi rebels used its AI service, Claude. According to the company, Claude was reportedly used to help develop software related to missile guidance, including determining the direction of a missile and controlling its flight path. The Houthis, who operate mainly in northern Yemen, possess several types of missiles. Some of their missiles are reportedly capable of travelling more than 2,000 kilometres. Anthropic also said that a missile system known as the R2000 included a hypersonic glide vehicle-type component.
The group reportedly used AI not only to develop missile-related software but also to study why missile tests failed and identify possible improvements. The use of AI for weapons development has raised new security concerns around the world. Anthropic has previously said that its AI services have been misused for activities such as weapons development and intelligence gathering in countries including China, Russia and Yemen.mClaude is an artificial intelligence service developed by the US-based company Anthropic. It can answer questions, analyse information, assist with computer coding and perform many other tasks. The latest report has raised concerns that powerful AI tools could be misused by dangerous groups for activities such as weapons development. This has become a growing security concern for countries around the world.
