A live broadcast then revealed that the upper-stage spacecraft failed to open its doors to release a payload of Starlink satellite “simulators.” Although the ship traveled further than in its two prior attempts, it developed leaks and began to spin uncontrollably as it traversed through space on a suborbital trajectory before re-entering the atmosphere in a chaotic manner and ultimately breaking apart. “Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly,” SpaceX announced on X – a well-known euphemism for failure – adding that it would derive lessons from this setback. Musk, for his part, pledged to accelerate the pace: “The launch cadence for the next three flights will be quicker – approximately one every three to four weeks,” he stated.
