That Killed Indian American Family of Six A Texas judge has sentenced 19-year-old Luke Garrett Resecker to 65 years in prison for a 2023 crash that killed six members of an Indian American family. Resecker, who was 17 at the time of the crash, was driving under the influence of THC when his pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic on December 26, 2023, and collided head-on with a Honda Odyssey minivan on U.S. Highway 67 near Cleburne, Texas. The victims were identified as Rushil Barri, 28, of Irving, and five visiting relatives from Georgia — Naveena Potabathula, 36; Nageswararao Ponnada, 64; Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada, 60; Krithik Potabathula, 10; and Nishidha Potabathula, 9. They were returning home from a family trip to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center when the crash occurred. Only one person, Lokesh Potabathula, survived the crash but was left paralyzed from the waist down. He lost his wife, two children, cousin, and in-laws in the accident. Police found THC wax, a vape pen, and marijuana in Resecker’s vehicle. Toxicology tests confirmed that he had active THC in his system during the crash. His passenger, 17-year-old Preston Glass, suffered a severe brain injury and remains permanently impaired. During the trial in Johnson County, prosecutors called the tragedy “entirely preventable,” describing it as a powerful reminder of the deadly consequences of impaired and reckless driving.
