NASA Plans Permanent Moon Research Base Under Artemis Mission. The United States space agency NASA is moving forward with its ambitious Artemis program, which aims to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon. As part of this major initiative, NASA has announced plans to build a permanent research base on the lunar surface to support future exploration and scientific studies. According to NASA officials, the lunar research facility will be developed in three phases and is expected to cost around ₹2 lakh crore. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman stated that the project will provide astronauts with the infrastructure needed to live and work on the Moon for extended periods.
The permanent base will be equipped with advanced technologies, including lunar rovers and drones, to conduct experiments and help scientists understand how humans can survive and operate in the Moon’s harsh environment. These tests will play a key role in preparing for future deep-space missions. NASA is targeting 2028 for the next crewed Moon landing under the Artemis program. Before astronauts arrive, the agency plans to complete the construction of the lunar research base and deploy essential equipment needed for long-term operations. The project marks a significant step toward sustainable lunar exploration and could pave the way for future missions to Mars and beyond.
