Putin Announces Russia Is Ready to Jointly Produce Sukhoi Su-57 Fighter Jets with India

Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia is ready to sell its advanced Sukhoi Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets to India and is also willing to jointly develop and manufacture the aircraft with India without any restrictions on technology transfer. Speaking during a meeting with the heads of leading international news agencies, Putin responded to a question from an Indian journalist and revealed Russia’s proposal for deeper defence cooperation with India. According to Putin, Russia has invited India to participate in the joint production of the Sukhoi Su-57, which he described as one of the world’s most advanced fighter aircraft. He added that the Indian government has shown interest and is currently reviewing the proposal. The Russian President explained that the Su-57 was originally expected to be developed as a joint project between Russia and India. However, after India withdrew from the programme, Russia completed the development of the aircraft independently.Putin also emphasized that Russia is now open to sharing technology and further upgrading the fighter jet together with India.

Putin stated that there are no limitations or conditions from the Russian side regarding technology transfer or collaborative manufacturing.If the proposal moves forward, it could significantly strengthen defence ties between India and Russia while boosting India’s domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities under its self-reliance initiatives. Joint production of advanced fighter jets could also enhance technology exchange, create skilled jobs, and improve India’s long-term defence preparedness. The Sukhoi Su-57 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft designed for air superiority and multi-role combat missions. It features advanced stealth technology, supersonic cruising capability, modern avionics, and highly sophisticated weapon systems, making it one of Russia’s flagship military aircraft.
