For the past few years, the Assam Police have been carrying out intensive operations to curb the trafficking and circulation of narcotic substances across the state. These efforts have led to the seizure of drugs worth several crores of rupees.After the completion of all legal procedures related to the cases and obtaining the necessary approval from the court, the Assam government organized a special state-level event on Sunday to officially destroy the confiscated narcotics.The large-scale drug destruction programme was held on the outskirts of Guwahati and was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Ministers Jayanta Malla Baruah and Nandita Gorlosa, along with senior police officials and other dignitaries.During the event, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally operated a road roller to crush and destroy bundles of the seized narcotics as part of the symbolic anti-drug campaign. He later shared a video of the event on his social media platformsThe destruction process was carried out using a high-temperature incinerator provided by the Central Government, ensuring that the narcotics were disposed of in an environmentally safe and scientifically approved manner. In total, drugs worth ₹472.51 crore were destroyed during the operation.
