Astronaut Anil Menon and astronaut Sophie Adenot carried out a spacewalk to replace a damaged antenna on the International Space Station (ISS). The antenna is used for high-speed communication between the space station and NASA’s control center in Houston. The space-to-ground antenna developed a problem, affecting an important communication system. To fix the issue, Anil Menon and Sophie Adenot stepped outside the space station and worked in space to replace the damaged equipment. This was Anil Menon’s second spacewalk. During his earlier spacewalk, Menon and astronaut Jessica worked outside the ISS for around seven hours to make changes to the station’s solar power equipment. Spacewalks are complex and carefully planned operations. Astronauts must wear special spacesuits that provide oxygen, temperature control and protection from the harsh conditions of space. The repair work is important for maintaining reliable communication between astronauts aboard the International Space Station and teams on Earth. Such maintenance activities also help ensure the smooth and safe operation of the space station.
