Amazon has announced the initiation of trials for its quick commerce operations in India, aiming to deliver grocery items within a timeframe of 15 minutes or less, as stated on December 10. The quick commerce sector is rapidly evolving in India, with competitors such as Zomato’s Blinkit and Swiggy’s Instamart offering delivery services for a range of products, including groceries and electronics, in as little as 10 minutes, thereby posing a challenge to established e-commerce leaders. Based in Seattle, Amazon is now entering this competitive landscape. Samir Kumar, the country manager for Amazon India, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing the widest selection of products at the fastest delivery speeds and the best value for customers across all pin codes in the nation.
According to research firm Datum Intelligence, India’s quick commerce market is projected to exceed $6 billion in annual sales this year, a significant increase from just $100 million in 2020. Earlier this year, Flipkart, Amazon’s major domestic competitor backed by Walmart, launched its own quick commerce service in select cities, promising grocery deliveries within 10 minutes. Additionally, billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance has commenced a pilot program for a delivery service that promises to fulfill orders within 10 to 30 minutes in areas near Mumbai.
