The Air Quality Index (AQI), which measures how polluted the air is, has six levels: 0–50 is safe, 51–100 is moderate, 101–150 is harmful for people with health issues, 151–200 affects even healthy people, 201–300 is very unhealthy, and 301–500 is extremely dangerous. In Delhi, the AQI reached around 450 yesterday, placing the city in the “hazardous” category. Pollution has remained at this severe level for the past few weeks, causing serious health concerns such as breathing problems and irritation. Due to the worsening situation, the Delhi government has ordered 50% of employees in both government and private offices to work from home to reduce traffic and pollution. Schools and colleges have already been told to stop all outdoor activities to protect students from the toxic air. Officials have advised people to stay indoors as much as possible and wear masks when going outside, while the government is expected to review the situation and consider further measures if the air quality does not improve.
