The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced new rules to simplify the process of getting a FASTag. These changes will come into effect from February 1 . According to NHAI, the KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process will no longer be mandatory for obtaining FASTag for light motor vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans. This decision has been taken to avoid delays and difficulties faced by vehicle owners due to the KYV procedure. NHAI has also clarified that vehicles which already have FASTag do not need KYV verification again. In its official statement, NHAI said that KYV will now be required only in cases where FASTag has been wrongly issued. KYV checks will be carried out only if there are complaints or suspected irregularities. For new FASTag activation, vehicle details must be verified using the VAHAN database. However, the confirmation process after FASTag activation through the database will be cancelled from February 1. If a vehicle is not listed in the VAHAN database, banks must verify the RC book before activating FASTag. Even FASTags purchased online must have vehicle details verified through the VAHAN database. NHAI stated that with these new rules, getting a FASTag will become much easier and more convenient for vehicle owners.
