India has achieved a major milestone in its defence manufacturing sector as the first locally produced C-295 military transport aircraft successfully completed its maiden test flight. The Indian Air Force (IAF) announced that the aircraft, manufactured in India, performed its first test flight successfully and congratulated the entire team involved in the project for this important achievement. The Government of India is procuring 56 C-295 transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force under a deal worth approximately ₹21,935 crore. Out of these, 40 aircraft will be assembled in Vadodara, Gujarat, by Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in collaboration with Airbus. The C-295 is a modern tactical transport aircraft designed for carrying troops, cargo, medical evacuation missions, and disaster relief operations. It is expected to replace the ageing Avro fleet currently used by the Indian Air Force and significantly improve operational capabilities. The successful test flight marks a significant step in India’s “Make in India” initiative and strengthens the country’s goal of becoming self-reliant in defence manufacturing. It also highlights the growing partnership between Indian and global aerospace companies in developing advanced military technology.
