Birmingham Shooting Incident: 4 died 17 injured

Four individuals lost their lives, and at least 17 others sustained injuries during a shooting incident in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday evening, according to police reports. On Sunday evening, the Birmingham Police Department identified three of the deceased victims: Anitra Holloman, 21, from Bessemer; Tahj Booker, 27, and Carlos McCain, 27, both from Birmingham. The identities of the fourth victim have not yet been disclosed. The shooting took place shortly after 11 p.m. in the 2000 Block of Magnolia Avenue South, within the Five Points South Entertainment District. Authorities indicated that the event was not random, but rather resulted from a specific incident in which multiple individuals were inadvertently caught in the crossfire.Police are looking for several suspects who reportedly shot at a large crowd gathered in a public space before escaping in a vehicle. When officers reached the location, they found two men and one woman lying on the sidewalk, unresponsive and with multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, all three victims were declared dead at the scene by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue team.

As the investigation continued, more victims were discovered nearby, and others were taken to local hospitals for treatment. One man later died at UAB Hospital, according to police reports. As of Sunday morning, authorities reported that there were 21 victims of gunfire, including four fatalities and 17 individuals who sustained injuries. The injuries varied in severity, with some being non-life-threatening while others were considered life-threatening.During a press briefing on Sunday, police indicated that they suspect the incident was a “targeted shooting.” They confirmed that one of the deceased was the intended target, but they did not disclose the identity of this person or the reasons behind the targeting. Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond expressed his deep sympathy for the victims and their families, offering heartfelt condolences during this tragic time.
