A British startup is innovating in the realm of racing yachts by creating vessels that generate hydrogen while navigating the seas. As wind power is projected to become the predominant energy source in the United Kingdom by 2024, Drift Energy aims to leverage offshore wind to enhance the efficiency of fuel production and transportation. The International Energy Agency forecasts that by the end of the decade, wind energy will overtake hydropower, establishing itself as the second-largest renewable energy source after solar. While the effectiveness of wind turbines can vary by location, they are generally more efficient than solar panels, capturing approximately 50 percent of the energy that flows through them, compared to just 20 percent for solar. In 2022, Drift Energy introduced two prototypes, each measuring just over 17 feet (5 meters) in length, at the Sail GP sailing league held in Plymouth Harbour, UK.
