Guru Nanak’s 555th Birth Anniversary was commemorated on November 9 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, centered around the theme “Oneness: A Light for Humanity.” This event, which celebrated Guru Nanak’s teachings on unity, equality, and love for all, was organized by the nonprofit organization Let’s Share a Meal. Since its inception in 2012, the organization has been dedicated to providing meals to homeless shelters, elderly homes, and soup kitchens, embodying the spirit of Langar, a community kitchen initiative aimed at offering nourishment and support to those in need. During the festivities, celebrity chef Vikas Khanna received recognition from hotelier Sant Chatwal for his significant contributions to the community.
Chatwal, alongside Giani Ranjit Singh, the Head Granthi of Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, and Khanna himself, expressed their appreciation for Onkar Singh, the trustee and chair of the Guru Nanak 555th Birth Anniversary Celebration, as well as his team for their efforts in organizing the successful event. The celebration included performances of Guruvani hymns in a classical style, featuring the esteemed vocalist Harshdeep Kaur, along with a group of young instrumentalists who enhanced the spiritual ambiance. The gathering drew a vibrant and diverse audience, reflecting Guru Nanak’s enduring message of unity among all communities, as noted in a press statement.
