A man of Indian descent was tragically shot and killed by an individual masquerading as a customer in the United States, with the entire event captured on CCTV footage. The victim, Paresh Patel, hailed from Dingucha, a village located in the Indian state of Gujarat. During the incident, Patel was present in the shop when the assailant entered, pretending to be a customer. Initially, the perpetrator attempted to rob him at the cash register, and although Patel complied with his demands, the assailant ultimately shot him after stealing the money. According to reports from the Indian government, 86 Indian nationals faced attacks or were killed in various countries throughout 2023. Kirti Vardhan Singh, the Minister of State for External Affairs, disclosed in Parliament last December that among these incidents, 12 occurred in the United States, while 10 each were reported in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. Singh emphasized that the safety and security of Indians abroad is a top priority for the Indian government, stating that their missions and posts remain vigilant and actively monitor any incidents. Furthermore, he assured that such occurrences are promptly addressed with the relevant authorities in the host countries to ensure thorough investigations and appropriate punishment for the offenders.
