Donald Trump, who is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20, will carry felonies on his criminal record, marking him as the first president in United States history to undergo a criminal trial, receive a guilty verdict, and face sentencing. A judge ruled on Friday that President-elect Trump would not be required to serve jail time, pay fines, or engage in community service following his conviction related to hush money payments in New York. Judge Juan Merchan granted him an “unconditional discharge,” thereby releasing him without any penalties for his 34 felony convictions concerning the falsification of business records. However, unless this conviction is later overturned, Trump will retain a felony record, which may have various implications, although he will not face additional penalties beyond this designation.
