India abstained from voting on a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Out of 193 member countries in the UN General Assembly, 107 voted in favor of the resolution, 12 voted against it, and 51 countries, including India, abstained. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the countries that supported the resolution. The war between Russia and Ukraine has now entered its fifth year, with thousands of civilians losing their lives. Although peace talks are being held with the support of the United States, Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine. To increase global pressure for a ceasefire, Ukraine pushed for the draft resolution at the United Nations General Assembly. Countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Philippines and Poland were among those that voted in support of the ceasefire.
