Deportations of undocumented immigrants in the United States have commenced as part of what the White House has characterized as the “largest massive deportation operation in history.” The Trump administration has confirmed that deportation flights are currently in progress, with numerous illegal immigrant offenders, including gang members and a suspected terrorist, already detained. Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, conveyed on X, “Promises made. Promises kept. President Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States, you will face severe consequences.”In light of these developments, India has reiterated its stance against illegal immigration.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi has expressed its dedication to facilitating the repatriation of Indian nationals who are overstaying or residing without appropriate documentation in the United States or other countries. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on January 24, “We are against illegal immigration, especially because it is linked to several forms of organized crime.” Jaiswal assured that India would assist in the return of its citizens, emphasizing, “If documents are shared with us and we can confirm their nationality, we will facilitate their return.” He also underscored the robust and multifaceted nature of India-U.S. relations, noting that India maintains close communication with the U.S. administration to address immigration-related issues. “Our approach has always been constructive, focusing on mutual interests,” he remarked. Furthermore, Jaiswal mentioned that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed the matter of visa delays with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his recent visit to Washington, D.C.
