The Ministry of External Affairs described India and Canada as “vibrant democracies” on Thursday, stating that New Delhi anticipates the upcoming meeting between the prime ministers of both nations during the G7 Summit will provide a significant opportunity to share perspectives and investigate avenues for revitalizing bilateral relations. During his weekly media briefing, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made this statement in reply to a question..”Our Prime Minister received a call from the Canadian Prime Minister last week. In that conversation, Prime Minister Mark Carney extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to participate in the G7 meeting, which has been accepted,” he noted. The call also served as a moment for the two prime ministers to discuss India-Canada relations and how to advance them, according to the MEA spokesperson.

Canada is set to host the important G7 meeting later this month. “India and Canada are vibrant democracies, united by common democratic values and a strong commitment to the rule of law. Additionally, there are very dynamic people-to-people connections,” Jaiswal remarked.”We believe that the upcoming meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Canada will present a vital opportunity for them to exchange views on both bilateral and global matters, and to explore ways to establish or re-establish the relationship, grounded in mutual respect, shared interests, and an awareness of each other’s concerns,” he added. In response to another question regarding the future direction of India-Canada relations, Jaiswal stated, “We are seeking a path to reset ties.”
