India stated on Friday that the restoration of relations with Canada is contingent upon the Justin Trudeau administration taking “strict and verifiable action against individuals engaged in anti-India activities.” In response to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s comments regarding his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they purportedly addressed the pressing issues between their nations, government sources informed that there was no substantive discussion held between the two leaders in Vientiane. Furthermore, regarding Trudeau’s statements, it was emphasized that no meaningful dialogue occurred during their meeting. India maintains its expectation that activities related to the Khalistani movement, which are detrimental to its interests, will not be permitted on Canadian territory, and it urges that decisive measures, which have been notably absent thus far, be implemented against those promoting violence, extremism, and terrorism directed at India from within Canada.
India places significant emphasis on its relationship with Canada; however, this relationship cannot be mended unless the Canadian Government implements stringent and verifiable measures against individuals who engage in anti-India activities and have conspired to incite hatred, spread disinformation, and foster communal discord and violence both in India and Canada, according to sources. Recently, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau revealed that he had a brief conversation with Prime Minister Modi, Following their discussion, Trudeau indicated that he communicated to Modi the existence of pressing issues that require resolution. This dialogue took place a year after Trudeau accused the Indian government of involvement in the assassination of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. This meeting represents the second interaction between Trudeau and Modi since their relations deteriorated in September 2023, subsequent to Trudeau’s remarks in the House of Commons regarding Canada’s investigation into “credible allegations” linking India to the terrorist’s murder. We are a democratic polity with a strong commitment to rule of law. Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing Gadgets continuing concern,” the Indian government had said in a statement.
