Delhi experienced its highest temperature of the season on Monday, with the mercury reaching 40.2 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, which is 5.1 degrees above the normal level. This increase in temperature coincides with a heatwave warning issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the national capital and several regions in northwest and central India earlier this week.In Palam, temperatures climbed to 39.5 degrees Celsius, surpassing the seasonal average by four degrees. A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi for both Monday and Tuesday, with the Met Department predicting heatwave conditions in various parts of the capital from Monday through Wednesday, where maximum temperatures are anticipated to range between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, Safdarjung recorded a high of 38.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees above normal, while Saturday’s maximum was 35.7 degrees. The highest temperature noted this season at Safdarjung was 39 degrees on April 3. Additionally, the air quality in Delhi continues to be classified as ‘poor.’ Heatwave conditions are also expected in parts of northern and central India, with isolated areas in Himachal Pradesh potentially affected on April 7. Regions such as Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab are forecasted to experience similar conditions from April 7 to 10, while western Uttar Pradesh may face a heatwave from April 7 to 9, and Madhya Pradesh from April 8 to 10. Furthermore, around 21 cities in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, and Maharashtra are predicted to experience elevated temperatures in the upcoming days.
