The Eiffel Tower in Paris underwent an evacuation on Tuesday morning due to reports of a potential fire within one of its sections. The alarm was triggered at 10:50 am (local time) in the area situated between the second floor and the top of the tower, as reported by Independent. In response to the situation, emergency teams were promptly dispatched to the iconic French landmark to address the concerns regarding a possible fire.
The Société d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE) stated that the evacuation was carried out “in accordance with current safety procedures.” Subsequent investigations revealed that the cause of the alarm was a short circuit affecting an elevator power rail, according to SETE. As reported by Euro News, approximately 1,200 tourists were safely evacuated from the site. A spokesperson assured that “No visitors were put in danger” and confirmed that firefighters and technical personnel are currently conducting investigations to determine the cause of the incident.At present, the Eiffel Tower is undergoing several maintenance activities, which include painting, renovations to the north pillar lift, and upgrades to the elevators that connect the second floor to the summit.
