On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump introduced a website for immigrants to express their interest in applying for the much-discussed “gold card,” which would provide successful foreign applicants with a pathway to US citizenship after a payment of $5 million to the government. “FOR FIVE MILLION $DOLLARS, THE TRUMP CARD IS COMING!” Trump announced on Truth Social on Wednesday. “Thousands have been calling and inquiring about how they can sign up to embark on a beautiful journey towards gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World.” The website currently permits individuals interested in the ‘Trump card’ to register their name, region, email address, and indicate whether they are applying for themselves or on behalf of a business. The newly launched website — trumpcard.gov — features an image of the gold-colored card, adorned with Trump’s likeness. It is accepting applications from eight regions: Europe, Asia (including the Middle East), North America, Oceania, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. US President Donald Trump first unveiled the “gold card,” a residency permit, in April. It bore his image and the inscription “The Trump Card.” At that time, the Republican president stated that the special visa would likely be available “in less than two weeks.”

Nevertheless, the program has not yet been formally launched, and the newly established website indicates that registered individuals will “be the first to hear when access opens.” Trump previously mentioned that the sales of the new visa, a high-priced alternative to the traditional green card, would attract job creators and could potentially help reduce the US national deficit. The billionaire former real estate mogul, who has prioritized the deportation of millions of undocumented migrants for his second term, asserted that the new card would serve as a pathway to highly sought-after US citizenship. He proposed that the gold card would replace the EB-5 investor visa and could generate 1 million in sales, raising sufficient funds to eliminate the national debt. The EB-5 visa provides immigrants with the opportunity to invest between $800,000 and $1.05 million in order to secure a green card. The funds from this investment are utilized to assist in the creation or preservation of jobs in the United States. When first proposing the visa program in February, Trump expressed that his administration aimed to sell “perhaps a million” of these cards and did not dismiss the possibility that Russian oligarchs could qualify.
