The administration of President Donald Trump has proposed a new bill that would impose a 5% tax on money sent from the United States to foreign countries, including India. This development has caused considerable shock among Indian workers in the U.S. Furthermore, it is estimated that over 1.37 million undocumented immigrants reside in the United States, prompting President Trump to take increasingly stringent measures to deport them. Since January of this year, there has been a continuous effort to remove undocumented immigrants from the country.In the United States, over 47.8 million foreign nationals are legally employed. Since President Trump took office, various rights and benefits afforded to them have been revoked. In this context, the Trump administration has proposed a new legislation known as ‘The One Big Beautiful Bill.’ This bill imposes several restrictions and taxes on foreign workers. Notably, it has been announced that foreign nationals working in the U.S. will be subject to a 5% tax on any money they send back to their home countries. As a result, more than 47.8 million foreign workers holding Green Cards and H1B, H2A, and H2B visas are in shock over these developments.Approximately 4.5 million Indians reside in the United States, with a significant majority hailing from South India. Among them, around 345,000 individuals are from Tamil Nadu, while 1.23 million are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. There is also a considerable number from Karnataka and Kerala. All of these individuals regularly send remittances to their families back in India. The recent tax policy introduced by President Trump has left these 4.5 million Indians in a state of shock.
