US Court Dismisses Criminal Case Against Gautam Adani. The Adani Group was accused of agreeing to pay around ₹2,000 crore in bribes to Indian officials to obtain approval for a solar power project. The group was also accused of hiding the alleged payments while raising funds from US investors. In November 2024, a US indictment was filed against Gujarat-based businessman Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and others in connection with the allegations. The Adani Group denied the charges and said they were baseless. Later, the US Department of Justice decided to drop the criminal case after the Adani Group proposed investing $10 billion in the United States. Both the Justice Department and Adani’s side presented their explanations before the court. Now, US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York has permanently dismissed the criminal case against Gautam Adani. The judge accepted the Justice Department’s explanation that the case involved foreign affairs and that proving the allegations would be difficult. Following the court’s decision, Gautam Adani reacted on X, saying that “truth has prevailed.”
