Vinesh became the first Indian to reach the Olympic finals in women’s wrestling.
The champion Indian wrestler suffered a major disappointment that she was disqualified from wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024 due to being overweight.
On August 12 Wednesday , Vinesh Phogat was set to play for gold in the Finals against Sarah Hildebrandt of America Under 50 kg category.
She had already won a Silver for India. In a shocking twist of luck, Phogat will now left Paris without a medal after being found overweight prior of her final.
She was found 100gm overweight on today morning. “The rules do not allow for this, and she has been disqualified”.
With sadness, the Indian team announces Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the finals of women’s Wrestling 50kg category.

The wrestling rules says that wrestlers to display their weight report on first round and on the morning of the final.
If Vinesh was within the 50kg weight limit on Tuesday morning she’ll allowed to play final.
If she is not under 50kg on the day of final,then she will be disqualified.
Cuban wrestler Guzman Lopez Yusnelis, who had lost her semifinal to Vinesh, will now clash in the gold medal match against Hildebrandt of America.
