The White House has announced the nomination of Harry Kumar for the position of Assistant Secretary of Commerce, as part of a larger list of appointments submitted to Congress by the Trump administration. Currently, Kumar holds the role of senior advisor in the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he offers strategic insights on economic policy, trade, and initiatives related to business development. Originally from Beaumont, Texas, where his parents, Dr. Nat and Dr. Saku Kumar, reside, Kumar earned his Juris Doctor from Texas Tech University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Texas A&M University. He and his fiancée, Alexandra, now make their home in New York City. Kumar’s professional journey began on Capitol Hill as Legislative Counsel for Representative Randy Weber, after which he progressed to the U.S. Senate, where he served as a policy advisor to Senator Marco Rubio. Additionally, he has held the position of Director of Government Relations for Li-Cycle, where he was responsible for leading federal engagement on policies related to critical minerals and battery recycling.
