World number one Magnus Carlsen from Norway triumphed over world champion D. Kukesh of India in the Norwegian Chess Tournament. The Norwegian Classical Chess Tournament is currently taking place in Stavanger, Norway. During the initial round of this event, which features 6 participating players, world number one Magnus Carlsen of Norway competed against world champion D. Kukesh of India. In this match, Carlsen utilized the white pieces while Kukesh played with the black pieces. After a game that extended beyond 4 hours, Carlsen emerged victorious due to an error made by Kukesh on the 55th move. By the conclusion of the first round, Carlsen was tied for first place with 3 points alongside the second-place player Hikaru Nakamura from the United States, who secured a win against his fellow countryman Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana in his opening round. Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erikaisi managed to draw against China’s top player Wei Yi. Should the classical match result in a draw, an Armageddon game will be conducted to determine the winner. Arjun Erikaisi claimed victory in the match, earning 1.5 points, while Wei Yi received one point. In the women’s division, India’s Honeru Humpy achieved victory over compatriot R. Vaishali.
