US President Donald Trump has signed a bill officially ending the 43-day government shutdown, the longest in American history. The new spending bill provides funding to keep the government open until January 30. With this move, about 670,000 federal employees who were furloughed during the shutdown can now return to work. The bill was first approved by the Senate and later passed the House of Representatives with a close vote of 222 in favor and 209 against. The shutdown, which started on October 1, had left nearly 700,000 government workers without pay, while essential personnel such as military members, police, and airport staff continued working without compensation. With the president’s signature, government services will gradually resume, bringing relief to millions of Americans and ending one of the most disruptive shutdowns in U.S. history.
