An Indian Air Force soldier collapsed during the commemoration of the 92nd anniversary of the Indian Air Force at the Tambaram Air Force Station in Chennai on Tuesday. Footage from the scene depicted the soldier being transported on a stretcher. This incident comes in the wake of a tragic event on October 6, when five individuals attending a large air show at Marina Beach succumbed to “high temperature” conditions in Tamil Nadu’s capital. In a press conference on Monday, Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister Ma Subramanian addressed the air show incident, with opposition parties criticizing the DMK government for inadequate administrative measures. While the citizens of Chennai were enjoying the IAF air show, it was regrettable that the Chennai Corporation, the Tamil Nadu government, and local police failed to effectively collaborate with the public. The poor management and inadequate traffic arrangements by the state police resulted in the loss of five lives and numerous hospitalizations. This situation arose from a lack of proper planning and foresight, and the state government must assume responsibility to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The five fatalities were attributed to extreme heat, with a total of 102 individuals affected by the soaring temperatures; 93 required hospitalization, and five were pronounced dead upon arrival at various hospitals, including Omandurar General Hospital, Royapet General Hospital, and Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. The minister reported a positive development in the current circumstances, noting that there are now only seven inpatients remaining. Specifically, four patients are being treated at Omandurar Hospital, two at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, and one at Royapet Hospital.
