Bill Gates, recognized as one of the wealthiest individuals globally, has contributed USD 50 million to a nonprofit organization that is backing Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, as reported by The New York Times. This financial support was meant to be kept private, as Gates has not made a public endorsement of Harris, who is competing against Republican Donald Trump in the forthcoming election scheduled for November 5.The donation from the co-founder of Microsoft was directed to the nonprofit division of Future Forward, known as Future Forward USA Action, which operates as a “dark money” entity and does not reveal its donors, according to the report. Consequently, any financial input from this prominent American billionaire will not be reflected in any public disclosures. Privately, Gates has reportedly voiced concerns regarding the potential consequences of a second term for Trump. His philanthropic organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is particularly apprehensive about possible reductions in family planning and global health initiatives should Trump secure re-election. Despite these worries, Gates has stated his readiness to collaborate with either candidate.
He emphasized his dedication to bipartisanship, asserting that “this election is different.” Gates expressed his support for candidates who exhibit a strong commitment to enhancing healthcare, alleviating poverty, and addressing climate change both in the United States and globally. He reiterated his history of working alongside leaders from both political parties but maintained that this election holds “unprecedented significance” for Americans and vulnerable populations worldwide. Following President Joe Biden’s announcement in July that he would not seek re-election, Gates spoke favorably about Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, highlighting her youth and her capacity to connect with current issues. Although Harris recently celebrated her 60th birthday, her rival, Donald Trump, is 78 years old, making him the oldest presidential nominee in the history of the United States. Gates’ former spouse, Melinda French Gates, has publicly endorsed Harris, aligning herself with at least 81 other billionaires who support the candidate in her contest against Trump. In stark contrast, Elon Musk, one of the wealthiest individuals globally, has chosen to endorse Trump.
