Elon Musk has often spoken about humans living in space, and his main goal has usually been Mars. However, he now appears to be shifting focus from Mars to the Moon. In a post on X, Musk said that SpaceX is currently concentrating on building a city on the Moon. He added that this could be achieved in less than 10 years, while creating a city on Mars could take more than 20 years. Musk explained that traveling to Mars is more difficult because it is only possible when Earth and Mars align, which happens once every 26 months. In contrast, rockets can be sent to the Moon every 10 days, making Moon missions easier and faster. Still, he said SpaceX will continue working toward its long-term goal of building a city on Mars. Many countries around the world are actively involved in space research, especially studies on whether humans can survive on Mars. The United States, China, and India are all working on Mars missions. Musk has been a strong supporter of sending humans to Mars and has spoken about it regularly. In 2023, Musk had said that humans should have a base on the Moon. Based on that idea, SpaceX is now focusing more on Moon-related projects. After completing work on the Moon, the company may take the next big step toward Mars. Meanwhile, the United States plans to send humans back to the Moon by 2027, and SpaceX is working closely with NASA on several space programs, which is why the company is giving more attention to Moon exploration at present.
