India and the United States are continuing trade negotiations, and President Trump has expressed eagerness to speak with Prime Minister Modi. In response, Prime Minister Modi stated that he is also keen to converse with Trump. President Donald Trump of the United States accused world nations of imposing high tariffs on their goods. Consequently, he announced a list indicating that retaliatory tariffs would be imposed, which included a 25% tariff on Indian products. Meanwhile, several rounds of discussions have taken place between India and the United States regarding the establishment of a bilateral trade agreement. However, delays have persisted due to a lack of consensus on certain issues. Due to the purchase of crude oil from Russia, it has been indicated that India is indirectly assisting the war in Ukraine. It was stated that a 25% tax would be imposed on crude oil purchases. As India refused to accept this, the 25% tax was implemented. Consequently, Indian goods are subjected to a 50% tax. India has expressed that this is unjust and not acceptable.
As a result, tensions have arisen in the relationship between the United States and India. In the midst of this, President Trump attempted to contact Prime Minister Modi four times via telephone. However, it has been reported that Prime Minister Modi did not accept his calls. In this context, Prime Minister Modi has consistently stated that my number is always his, yet he expressed his discontent regarding some of Trump’s actions just a few days ago. Similarly, there exists a strong relationship between India and America. Trump has indicated that there is no need for concern regarding this matter. In response to this, Prime Minister Modi remarked that he appreciates Trump’s sentiments and the direct feedback regarding the relationships between the two nations. President Trump stated in a post released the day before yesterday on his Truth social media platform, “The ongoing negotiations to resolve the trade barriers between India and the United States are progressing. I am eager to speak with my good friend Prime Minister Modi in the coming weeks. Together, we will work to ensure a bright future for both our nations’ peoples.” This post by Prime Minister Modi, shared by Trump on his Truth social media platform, serves as an indication of progress in the bilateral relationship.
