Massive protests happening in West Bengal medical colleges over a doctor’s rape and murder case in Kolkata.

Kolkata: Following the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at the State-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.A junior doctors and medical professionals across the State organized massive protests on Saturday.

At RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,The 31-year-old post-graduate trainee was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty.

This protest emerges after the arrest of a civic volunteer named Sanjay Roy on Saturday morning in connection with the case.The suspect was brought before a city court and sentenced to 10 days in police custody.

The resident doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital want strict measures to solve the hospital’s defective security agency, as well as improved installation of CCTV cameras with 24/7 real-time monitoring.”

During a protest on Saturday, Dr. Arif Naskar of the college’s Medicine department stated, “We also want the post-mortem report to be released immediately and a fast-track court to be formed for the punishment of the culprit.”

Meanwhile, junior doctors and staff of other State-run hospitals like Medical College, Kolkata, and Calcutta National Medical College called a one-day strike.

Students alleged that the campus lacks proper washrooms for female staff and also lack of basic facilities which the authorities have ignored for so long.

There have been many cases of violence against doctors,there appear to be multiple internal and external threats.

An RTI revealed that 58 resident doctors committed suicide during the last five years. According to a National Medical Commission (NMC) survey, 37,000 medical students have self-reported mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts.
