The renowned steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art were transformed into a vibrant homage to culture and sophistication as the Met Gala 2025 revealed a striking ambiance under the theme ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’ A significant highlight of the evening was a 63,000-square-foot carpet, intricately woven from sisal fibers and adorned with a daffodil design, once again crafted by Neytt by Extraweave, a design house based in Kerala. This marks the third consecutive year that Neytt by Extraweave, located in Alappuzha, Kerala, has partnered with the Met Gala to create the event’s signature carpet. Renowned for its environmentally friendly, biodegradable flooring solutions, the brand is part of Extraweave, one of India’s leading manufacturers of natural fiber flooring. The carpet was made from sisal sourced from Madagascar, a sustainable material recognized for its strength and low environmental footprint. According to Vogue, the floral design—golden daffodils against a deep blue background—was envisioned by artist Cy Gavin, who drew inspiration from the flowers outside his studio in upstate New York. Gavin shared with the magazine that the daffodil, often symbolizing renewal and spring, was an appropriate representation for the Costume Institute’s annual fundraiser, which takes place every first Monday in May. Neytt by Extraweave’s participation exemplifies the excellence of Indian craftsmanship, which continues to resonate on the world’s most esteemed cultural platforms—this time, quite literally beneath our feet.
