A vacation in El Portal has turned into a serious murder case after police released 911 audio involving an Oklahoma doctor accused of killing her four-year-old daughter. Dr. Neha Gupta, 37, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Aria Talathi, in June 2025. At first, the incident was reported as an accidental drowning in a swimming pool. However, investigators now believe the drowning was staged to hide the real cause of the child’s death. In the emergency call, Gupta told dispatchers that she found her daughter at the bottom of the pool after hearing a noise. She said she did not know how to swim and could not save the child. But forensic reports later showed that the girl’s lungs and stomach were dry, proving she did not drown. Doctors also found injuries in the child’s mouth and bruises on her cheeks, suggesting she may have been smothered before being placed in the water. The case is further complicated by a custody dispute with the child’s father, Dr. Saurabh Talathi, who told police he did not know his daughter had been taken out of Oklahoma. Following the allegations, the University of Oklahoma dismissed Gupta from her job. She is now in custody without bond in Florida and will face trial there.
