Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Vinesh has joined the farmer groups’ large protest at the Shambhu border, which connects Haryana and Delhi, demanding that the Central government keep its promises to the protesters.
It has been 200 days since hundreds of farmers began sitting at the Shambhu border on February 13 in protest of a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for their crops.
Vinesh Phogat stated, “It’s been 200 days since they sat here. It is terrible to witness this. All of them are citizens of this nation. Farmers run the country. Nothing is possible without them, even athletes; if they do not feed us, we will be unable to perform.
Farmer their representatives also honored Vinesh Phogat as she arrived at their protest site at the Shambhu border, representing the completion of the 200-day campaign.
On August 22, the Supreme Court ordered the states of Punjab and Haryana to continue meeting with protesting farmers in attempt to encourage them to clear the roadway along the Shambhu border.
Previously, the Supreme Court directed the Senior Superintendents of Police in Patiala and Ambala, as well as the Deputy Commissioners of both districts, to meet and discuss the possibility of temporarily opening the Shambhu border highway for ambulances, essential services, and local people who commute.
In February, the Haryana government placed barricades on the Ambala-New Delhi national highway after farmers’ organizations stated that they would march to Delhi in support various demands.
