The United States has witnessed a rise in fatal road accidents involving truck drivers of Indian origin in recent years. In response, the administration led by President Donald Trump introduced stricter measures to prevent unqualified foreign nationals from operating commercial heavy vehicles in the country. As part of efforts to improve public safety, US authorities increased inspections and enforcement actions to identify individuals who were staying in the country in violation of visa rules and working without proper authorization. Under this initiative, the US Border Patrol conducted a special enforcement operation named “Operation Checkmate” in the Yuma Sector of Arizona from May 11 to May 15. During the operation, officials arrested a total of 52 individuals. Investigators found that 36 of those arrested were illegally operating commercial heavy vehicles without proper authorization to live or work in the United States. Among them, 30 were Indian nationals. The remaining six individuals were from Mexico, El Salvador, and Russia. Authorities also discovered that some of the arrested drivers possessed licenses issued by states such as California, New York, Washington, and Virginia. According to Border Patrol official Dustin Caudill, the 30 Indian nationals and other foreign citizens arrested during the operation are expected to face deportation proceedings in the near future. The operation highlights the US government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement and ensure that commercial vehicle operators meet legal and safety requirements.
