India has launched the new electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) card for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders. Along with this, the government has also upgraded its online portal to improve public services and make compliance easier.The Bureau of Immigration announced the launch of the e-OCI card on X, calling it good news for all OCI cardholders. The digital card allows users to store their OCI card on their mobile phone instead of carrying the physical OCI booklet everywhere.The e-OCI card is a digital version of the existing OCI card. Travellers can download it to their smartphones and show it to immigration officials and airline staff whenever required during their journey.The government clarified that the e-OCI card is only an additional convenience and does not replace the physical OCI card. Cardholders should continue to keep their physical OCI card as required.The new digital card is expected to make travel easier, especially for frequent travellers, by reducing the need to carry the OCI booklet. OCI cardholders can download their e-OCI card by visiting the official OCI Services Portal and following the simple online steps provided on the website.
